What's funded, and what you should know

The state may cover

  • AI discovery — up to 50% (max $5,000)
  • Employee AI training — up to 50% (max $20,000)
  • Staff time for no-cost awareness training — $1,000/employee (up to $10,000)

Good to know

  • You choose your provider and submit your own application
  • Paid as a reimbursement — you pay, then the state reimburses the eligible share
  • Funds discovery & training, not the cost of AI tools or licenses
  • Eligibility & approval are set by the SD Dept. of Labor & Regulation (DLR)

How much might the state cover?

Up to 50% of eligible costs — up to $5,000 for discovery and up to $20,000 for training — plus $1,000/employee (up to $10,000) toward staff time for no-cost awareness training. Amounts and approval are set by DLR.

Who's eligible?

South Dakota for-profit businesses, non-profits, and public-sector employers with a presence in the state. DLR determines eligibility.

Do I have to use a specific trainer?

No — you choose your own qualified provider and submit your own application. (We're a South Dakota–based AI training + implementation provider.)

What's the deadline?

The 2026 round closed August 7, 2026; the next round is expected in 2027. (Businesses that received Category 1 Discovery funding can apply for Category 2 by Nov 12, 2026.) Training is completed by June 30, 2027.
